A guide to Polish vodkas

Proven masters of make-do with the potato as their primary resource, the Poles have been producing and drinking vodka since the early Middle Ages, distilling their skill into some of the best vodka blends available in the world, many of which date back centuries. The two most highly regarded clear Polish vodka brands must be Belvedere and Chopin, both of which you’ll find in any alcohol shop. But you won’t find many tipplers throwing them back at the bar. While clear vodkas are generally reserved for giving away at weddings and mixing in cocktails, the real fun of Polish vodka sampling is the flavoured vodkas. Unlike beer with juice (regarded as highly emasculating), flavoured vodkas are embraced by both sexes and imbibed copiously.

Wasi strapieni filipińscy bracia i siostry w wierze odczuli ciepło waszej miłości i troski.

1% tax for public benefit organisations

Every taxpayer has the right to transfer 1% of their tax to a public benefit organisation. In such event, the taxpayer does not transfer the whole tax to the state budget, but may choose to support one of the social organisations, a foundation or association instead. Such organisations may be charitable, they may promote education, social work, defence of human rights, or other types of assistance, e.g. legal or social. Thus, the taxpayer may have a direct influence on the cases that will be supported by part of their tax. A list of public benefit organisations is available here -> It is worth checking, because not all foundations or associations enjoy the status of public benefit organisation, which means that 1% of tax may not be transferred to any foundation or association. In order to transfer 1% of tax, one should enter the number of the organisation (so-called KRS number) and the amount to be transferred (which cannot exceed 1% of tax) in the correct field of the tax r

By Iwona Glowacka WARSAW — Riza, 45, is dressed elegantly in a knee-length black fur coat and a pair of leather trousers. She wears a copper shade of lipstick and neatly pinned hair. “Back in the Philippines we are heroes, women of success,” she says. “Children are grateful for what we do for them.” I meet Riza in front of the Warsaw Immaculate Conception Chapel . The Sunday mass has just ended, and she is among the 20 women gathered around Sister Yolanda, who like them is a Filipina. “I nurse this girls club,” says the nun, who has lived in Warsaw for the last three years and helps bind together this group of women from the Philippines. Three nuns and a Black Madonna in Czestochowa

A Philippine Daily Inquirer Article "...What really draws the interest of Filipino pilgrims to Czestochowa, apart from it being Pope John Paul II’s favorite pilgrim destination, is the marked presence of their kabayan. We were fortunate that our Journeys of Faith group decided to book us in a Franciscan convent just along the street that leads to the Jasna Gora monastery where we could find the sanctuary of the Black Madonna. It was here where we met the Luz-Vi-Min nuns of Czestochowa..." Read more...
