The minimum wage in Poland will be raised from the current PLN 2,250 (EUR 519) to PLN 2,600 (EUR 599) from 2020, up by 15.6%, Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said after a government meeting Last September 10. At its sitting on Tuesday, the government debated a draft regulation on the minimum monthly wage and minimum hourly rate. THE Department of Labor and Employment was asked to investigate the alleged recruitment of Filipinos who were already gainfully employed in Taiwan, Malaysia, Singapore and Hong Kong to work in Poland. The scheme known as “third-country” recruitment was exposed by the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) following complaints from Filipino household service workers (HSWs) in Hong Kong, Singapore and Cyprus. The HSWs were lured into transferring to another country like Dubai, Mongolia, Turkey and Russia only to find out later that their conditions of employment were miserable or worse, that the offered jobs were non-existent. Recruitment through a third country is illegal because neither the recruiter nor the employer has authorization from the Philippine government. The publication explains in an accessible way the rules governing foreign nationals’ education and work in Poland and offers tips how to combine the two activities together. The brochure also describes the procedures for obtaining a work permit and a residence permit to perform work subject to changes that took effect last January 2018. A section of the brochure is devoted to employees’ right such as the right to an annual and parental leave or the rules of overtime work. The brochure includes a sample pre-trial notice for the payment of the unpaid salary as this is the most frequent problem reported by foreigners working in Poland.
