President Benigno S. Aquino III welcomes former Poland President and Nobel Peace Prize laureate Lech Walesa during the Courtesy Call at the Music Room, Malacañan Palace on Wednesday (November 28, 2012). Walesa, a charismatic leader, won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1983, has been named “Man of the Year” by Time Magazine in 1981, The Financial Times (1980) and The Observer (1980). President Benigno S.  UPDATE ON TYPHOON PABLO (INTERNATIONAL CODE: BOPHA)      The Philippine Embassy would like to update the Filipino community in Poland regarding relief efforts for Typhoon Pablo.       Casualties as of December 7, 2012: 418 reported dead; 445 injured and 383 missing. 1,033,364 families are affected by the typhoon’s devastation. The places most affected were Compostela Valley and Davao Oriental. Smile for the World: A Filipino Photo Essay Contest on Calidad Humana

Mga Kababayan; The Cultural Center of the Philippines, The Embassy of Chile, The Embassy of Brazil, University of Santo Tomas, University of Asia and the Pacific, University of the Philippines, Ateneo de Manila University, De La Salle University, Coca Cola, Mc Donald’s and the Philippine Star will be conducting a national photography essay competition entitled “ Smile for the World:  A Filipino Photo Essay Contest on Calidad Humana”. It is intended to showcase, through the medium of photography and a short essay, the delight of Filipino smile as a expression of human qualities such as friendship, steadfastness, cheerfulness, optimism, fortitude and resilience, thus portraying a culture of excellence in society. This year’s competition is open to all Filipino citizens, regardless of age, place of residence or occupation. The deadline for submission of entries is on 28 February 2013, and the awarding ceremonies are expected to be held in the first week of July
