9 August 2011- In its first outreach to the Filipino community outside Warsaw, Philippine Ambassador to Poland Edgardo Manuel led the Embassy officers and staff in paying tribute to the Matki Bożej Królowej Świata (Madonna, Queen of Nations/Our Lady Mediatrix of All Nations, Domacyno) along with close to 100 Filipinos and Polish nationals from across Poland who convened for the Filipino Summer Gathering 2011.
The two-day event held last July 30 and 31 commenced with a holy mass at the foot of the hill where the statue of the Madonna sits.
Sculpted by award-winning Filipino sculptor Eduardo Castrillo, the Madonna was brought to Poland through a donation of Mr. Stefan Masternak of Australia and Mr. Manuel Go of the Philippines.
Cardinal Ricardo Vidal, together with the bishops of the Diocese of Koszalin-Kołobrzeg and the Diocese of Szczecin-Kamien, consecrated the Madonna on 29 October 1995.
The Deputy Mayor of Karlino Piotr Wós, Burmistrz of Góscino Marian Sieradzki, Sołtys of Domacyno Stanislawa Łepecka and Promotion Officer Emilia Michałowska joined in the celebration of the mass and attended the short program and luncheon.
Prior to the afternoon program, Ambassador Manuel and First Secretary and Consul Indhira C. Bañares were brought to the Special Economic Zone of Karlino for possible investment sites for prospective Filipino companies and investors. In the economic zone were industrial manufacturers from Germany, Sweden and Poland.
Later in the afternoon, Consul Bañares presented the principal functions and services of the Embassy, including information on the upcoming registration on overseas absentee voting.
The engagement with the Filipino community elicited positive responses for future cooperation between the Embassy and the Filipinos in Poland.END
