MANILA, Philippines — Elaine Kay Moll, 2012 Miss Supranational beauty pageant third runner-up, says the Philippines is becoming known as a nation of winners in international beauty pageants.
"Modesty aside, isa sa mga pinaka-hihintay na candidate sa Miss Supranational ay ang Philippines. Amazed 'yung ibang candidates at natutuwa pag-nalalaman nila na taga-Philippines ako. And they are familiar with Binibining Pilipinas," said Moll during her arrival press conference at the Gateway Suites, Araneta Center in Cubao, Quezon City last Tuesday.
Stella Marquez Araneta, chairperson of the Binibining Pilipinas Charities Inc., said that she is satisfied with the results of the competition held in Poland over the weekend.
"They (organizers) invited me again and asked me to send another candidate next year,” Araneta said.
With the good standing of Moll in the just-concluded 2012 Miss Supranational pageant, the BPCI will discuss if the international beauty contest will become part of the major titles next year, Araneta said.
The BPCI sends out delegates to three international pageants, including Miss Universe and Miss International.
Moll, who will celebrate her birthday today, said that she was nervous when she was the 16th candidate to be called. "I was not sure If I was going to be called at all. Super kabado ako. But I assured myself that I had done my best. I had to think positive.'' As third runner-up, she won $2,000 and jewelry.
After winning a place in the international pageant, Moll said that she was not able to call "kasi bawal ang cellphone sa studio." She added: "Di ko pa nakakausap ang pamilya ko but I was able to talk to them through Facebook. Super happy sila.''
Moll said that she plans to finish her studies and earn a college degree.
She also said that she enjoyed Poland a lot. "I love Poland! I love the weather kahit maginaw, the food, the people, the sights! The Poles were very warm in their welcome. I also, love the Filipino community who supported me there. They gifted me with lots of food and Pope John Paul II souvenirs. Totoo pala. There is a Filipino in every part of the world. At ang dami rin press na sumusunod sa pageant, parang Binibining Pilipinas din!''
After Moll, Nicole Schmitz will be leaving for Japan to compete in the Miss International pageant.
At the press briefing, Moll told Schmitz: "Just be yourself. Be confident. Be fierce, and I know kaya mo naman yun. Always think that this is for the Philippines. Good luck! I am praying or your success.''
