How to check if an employer/work permit exists/valid?

All polish companies/enterpreneurs regardless the fields of activity has NIP, KRS or PESEL numbers.

NIP (Numer Identyfikacji Podatkowej)

NIP is the Tax Identification Number in Poland - the polish government tax offices uses a NIP to identify the employer/company within their system

KRS (Krajowy Rejestr Sadowy)

KRS is a centralized database consisting of:

  • registers of enterpreneurs
  • registers of association, other social and professional organizations, foundations and other public health institutions
  • register of insolvent debtors

The task of KRS is to provide informations of the legal status of a registered entity (e.g. company), including financial position and its representation

REGON (Rejestr Gospodarki Narodowej)

Companies/enterpreneurs receives such numbers immediately following the entry of their companies' data into the register, which means they are authorized by the polish government.

Employer data can be checked in the

  • CEIDG (Central registration and Information on Business) database (PL/EN)  - (https://prod.ceidg.gov.pl)
  • REGON database  (Information on entrepreneurs can also be found in the search engine of the national register of entities of national economy (REGON), kept by the Central Statistical Office (GUS). You can find the entity you are interested in by its NIP, REGON, KRS and address. In REGON you can find, among other things, data on civil law partnerships that you could not find in CEIDG.)
  • KRS (National Court Register) database (www.krs-online.com.pl / https://ekrs.ms.gov.pl/)

If the employing entity is a Polish temporary employment agency, data can be found in the National Register of Employment Agencies (www.kraz.praca.gov.pl).

BE CAREFUL - IF YOU ARE NOT SURE IF PHONE NUMBER, E-MAIL, BANK ACCOUNT - belongs to company that use given KRS/REGON/NIP/VAT number - check it too. Scamer could pretend to be a real company and give you some false contact/bank data.

EVEN IF COMPANY IS REGISTERED IT DOES NOT MEAN THAT IS RELIABLE!

If you obtained your work permit from you prospect employer IT COULD BE FAKE!
So better check it contacting with office issuing such work permits.
